Happy 2019!  I hope everyone had a joyous holiday season.  It has been wonderful welcoming your smiling students back to school.  We are looking forward to a new year filled with learning, happiness, and fun!

Kindness Trees


One of our Hastings school rules is “Be Kind.”  We work with our students on showing and practicing kindness towards our classmates, teachers, family, and community.  There are two large kindness trees painted on the walls of our school. Each month students try to fill the trees by demonstrating acts of kindness.

Free Parent Book Study Group Do you want to learn how to better collaborate with your child? Do you want to help your child learn to problem solve, be empathetic, as well as become more insightful, thoughtful, and resilient? If so, we have the book for you! Raising Human Beings, by Ross Greene. What: A book study group that will meet to discuss the strategies learned and support one another in connecting and applying our new learning to teaching our children. When and Where: 6-7pm at Mill Pond on 5 consecutive Tuesday evenings - 1/8, 1/15, 1/22, 1/29 & 2/5, 2019 Who: Kim Tynan (District Clinical and Social Emotional Learning Coordinator), Maura Kovaleski (Mill Pond Assistant Principal) and up to 20 parents/guardians. For more information and to register, click here.

News and Notes for the Week of Dec. 3 - Dec. 7, 2018.

Would you like to be a library volunteer? The Hastings Elementary School Library is looking for someone just like you to be an important part of maintaining a welcoming and effective school library! We are current in search of a volunteer for MONDAY, THURSDAY or FRIDAY morning.

Morning volunteers (8:45-9:45 am):  help check in books, shelve, assist students with book exchanges and finding a book, straighten shelves. If you are interested, please contact our school librarian, Mr. Maxwell at maxwellj@westboroughk12.org. Be sure to note which morning you are available to volunteer.

District-wide FOOD DRIVE for the Westborough Food Pantry - December 3-14. Collection bins will be located in the Hastings lobby. Thank you for participating! 

Registration is now open for the free parent workshop Parenting with Love and Discipline” (rescheduled from November) by Jeanine Fitzgerald onTuesday, Dec. 11 at 6:30-8:00 at the Boroughs YMCA in Westborough on 4 Valente Drive.  Limited free childcare, for ages 6 months- 12 years. Register for the Workshop Here


 

Westborough Turkey Trot - Saturday November 18, 2017, 9am at Westborough High School. Family friendly, 5K, Run, Walk or Trot and 10am Kids' Fun Run.  Annual school and community fundraising event promoting health and fitness.

The next Hastings Parent Group meeting is Thursday, October 26, at 6:30 PM in the Hastings Library. Come to find out how you can be more involved in your child's education and school community. Childcare is always provided.

Westborough Education Foundation Annual Trivia Bee Fundraiser - Monday November 6, 2017 at the DoubleTree Hotel, 6:30pm.  Watch teachers, WHS students community members and parents test their trivia knowledge as they compete for the trivia trophy!  Pizza, kids activities, exciting raffles, and demonstrations by the WHS Robotics Team Redshift 4048.  All proceeds benefit the Westborough Education Foundation.
