Fine Arts
The Orchestra Program begins in grade 3 with string instruction on violin and viola being offered as an elective. Children receive one lesson per week and then have the opportunity to perform as an orchestra at the spring concert. Orchestra continues at all grades up through High School.
Visual Art is an important aspect of every child’s education in all of the Westborough Schools. Children in grades K-7 receive a weekly art lesson that is based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Children will learn how to create visual art using variety of media including: painting, drawing, sculpture, and ceramics. Children will utilize observational skills while learning how to develop an artist’s eye and hand.
Children in Grades K-3 receive one 40 minute class per week that focuses on helping them become responsive musicians. Lesson material is steeped in Orff/Kodaly pedagogy and instruction is based on the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. Students in grade 3 also learn how to play the recorder as part of their classroom music experience.
